“Vienna View”
18" x 24" framed oil pastel
Vienna, Austria is known for art galleries, concert halls, and museums and is one of Europe's most popular vacationlands. This is the view from my hostel I was staying in, which is the same building where Sigmund Freud once had his office. Sigmund Freud(1856-1939) was an Austrian physician who revolutionized ideas on how the human mind works and greatly advanced the field of psychiatry. This office space is now called the "American House". On one rainy day I was unable to go out to paint, so I took advantage of the beauty just outside my "American House" window.

“Vienna Market”

The agriculture marketplace in Vienna, Austria is such an incredible experience. The farmers provide all the potatoes and sugar beets and most of the barley, oats, rye, and wheat needed in Austria. The fruits and vegetables supplied by these farmers in this little marketplace looked so perfect they appeared to be plastic. Everyone working at this vegetable/fruit stand were very friendly and willing to help you. But be warned, do not touch the merchandise for they do not want any contamination of any kind. Simply point at the vegetable/fruit you are interested in buying and they will be glad to assist you. It puts back the true meaning of customer service.

“Bonding II”
24" x 33" framed oil pastel
This is a start of a new media for me, oil pastels. It gave me a lot of pleasure to work with this media since I had been teaching oil pastels to my students. I was surprised how much I enjoyed them and the richness they possessed. The waves appear so life-like and vibrant with the mother and child holding hands in this beach setting.

“Pinehurst Course”
20" x 24" framed oil pastel
I am not a golfer, although both my father and husband are. I find the courses to be very beautiful. North Carolina has an abundance of golf courses to choose from with varying terrain. In eastern North Carolina, there is the coastal/wetland area while in the western part of the state, there are some exquisite mountain courses set in the Appalachian mountain range. This picture was taken in Pinehurst in the middle of the state. It is here in the "Sandhills" area where many of the best North Carolina courses are built. The golf course designs are unique, but more importantly to me is the landscape. The grass is always beautifully manicured and the flowers exquisite. I may not enjoy the sport, but I can appreciate the view.

“Vienna Vineyard”
26" x 32" framed oil pastel
I traveled outside of the city of Vienna, Austria to see the elegance of these manicured vineyards. The land formation and rolling hills were absolutely amazing! Rocky terrain and constantly changing elevations in Austria are part of the landscape, considering that the region is so mountainous that only 20 percent of the land can be used for growing crops. As for the city of Vienna and surrounding areas, it resides in the Eastern Forelands land region where the soil is fertile and helps make it Austria's chief agricultural area. Even though we were in the lowland area of Austria, there were some very steep hills we had to climb to get to the vineyard. Since the transit system did not venture up these steep slopes, we had our exercise for the day after reaching the winery. As you can see, it was well worth the trip.
