Charlie's Classic Car Charlie's classic car in front of the Bynum General Store. The store has been the community's pine-floored, tin-roofed soul. The big fellow with square sideburns behind the counter is Jerry Partin - the owner. Growing up, he played marbles in the parking lot grit. The wooden shelves would have you think nothing ever changed in this part of North Carolina. There are displays of Ajax and pickled pigs' feet, cigarettes and Vitalis hair tonic. A young singer-songwriter named Tift Merritt performed outside the store, hundreds of out-of-towners would pour into Bynum, choking its skinny two-lane streets with cars and trucks..

Doug's Truck Doug saw Charlie Kaleel's classic car painting hanging in his new showroom now called Southern Classic Cars. He loved the entire painting and had to have his truck painting, including the Bynum General Store. Sorry to say the store is now closed.

Hibiscus Bloom This painting was influenced by Georgia O'Keeffe's work. The hibiscus flower is one of many splendors in God's creation with its intricate parts and exquisite color. This flower is growing abundantly in my mother's yard in Florida. It was hard to sit outside without wanting to paint this delicate beauty. My mother's yard has always embellished the loveliness of nature.

Dogwood Day Georgia O'Keeffe is one of my favorite artists. The beauty that God has created can only be found in its true splendor. Capturing just a part of this beauty is a gift that God has also given to me.

Bonding This watercolor was from the memories of the wonderful days spent at the beach with my mom growing up and the times with my son on the North Carolina and Florida beaches. Though it is not a painting of us, it represents the closeness mother and child have as they relish in God's miracle of the fierce but beautiful ocean.

Heron Blues These herons are a wonderful bird, full of grace and poise. They are very strong and unafraid in their water environment. I have wanted to paint these birds for some time and was glad to have the opportunity. I remember years ago my older sister would talk about the blue heron that would visit her house by the lake in Michigan. Now my parents live on the inter-coastal in Florida and see these birds quite frequently.

Copper Still The reflections of metal and light sustain an incredible look. The Dutch artists and I were intrigued with this style of painting. This material can shine like the richest jewels. In the past, it was the beauty of the metals and how much you possessed which determined one's wealth.

Divided We Fall This composition is about our country and how it came to pass. Raleigh is a planned city, with the capitol in the middle with churches surrounding it. I believe our government forgets the true reason America is here!

Fore My father is a golfer who always took a lot of pride in his clubs and golf bag. To him they were beauty, so I decided to try to find this beauty they possessed. To my surprise I really enjoyed painting these objects that meant so much to my dad.

Hungarian Music Szentendre is located only a few kilometers from the capital of Hungary with its own special mediterrean atmosphere attracting visitors for centuries. This little town is situated on the right side of the Danube between Buda, Visegrád and Esztergom. Wonderful region! Before this small town, the Little-Danube river flows in front of our eyes. In the distance, there is an island scattered with fertile villages where the Big-Danube flows and the ruins of a Roman stone bridge. Behind this bridge and on the left side of town, the vineyards and beautiful hills serve as a backdrop where many street musicians play throughout the year.

Gravelscape This composition comes from the gravel pits of Detroit, Michigan. It was done observing the many different layers of color found in the soil and painted in this fashion. I painted countless layers of pigment. The textures also caught my interest as they were so rough and gritty, but in the same instance you felt that you could smoothly glide down the surface.
